Regional Water Fund (FORAGUA)
The Regional Water Fund of Ecuador (FORAGUA), is an environmental and water fund founded in 2009 that has 14 members who manage the resources of a water consumption tax. Public and international cooperation contributions are complemented and invested in actions and measures for the conservation, protection and restoration of water sources and biodiversity.
The fund enables integrated management of the resource and the agile and effective execution of the funds. 164,000 hectares have been established as municipal conservation areas and sustainable use areas, and within them, 67,000 hectares are part of the areas of water interest, intangible areas committed to the protection and restoration of water sources for human consumption.
