Ordinary Session of the RedLAC General Assembly: Strengthening the Commitment to Conservation
Saint Lucia, Eastern Caribbean, October 2024 – As part of its annual ordinary assembly of members, the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds (RedLAC) held a series of strategic decisions to reinforce its mission of promoting conservation and sustainability in the region. The session brought together representatives of environmental funds who participated in a pivotal day that included the ratification of new members, elections for leadership positions for 2026, and the review of progress reports on key projects.
One of the highlights of the assembly was the ratification of membership for two new funds, which expand RedLAC’s representation and reach across the continent: the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future and the Galápagos Life Fund. These new members reflect RedLAC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening a diverse and collaborative network to address environmental challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The assembly also included a vote on the future venues for the RedLAC Congress, continuing the tradition of rotating the event across different countries in the region to foster the exchange of experiences and strengthen local and international partnerships. It was agreed that the 2025 RedLAC Congress would be hosted in Chile, with Fondo Naturaleza Chile serving as the hosting organization. Additionally, the Annual Activity Reports from the RedLAC Presidency, Executive Secretariat, and Executive Committee were presented, along with the 2023 Audit Report and the 2024 Financial Report. The 2025 Work Plan and Budget, guided by RedLAC’s newly approved Strategic Plan for 2024, was also approved.
The day featured updates on two of RedLAC’s most significant projects: the BRIDGE Project and the Conserva Aves Initiative. Both initiatives, endorsed by the assembly, continue to drive international and regional collaboration for biodiversity conservation and the strengthening of ecosystems in key areas of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Lastly, during the session on strategic partnerships, opportunities for collaboration were presented, and updates were shared on the GEF Working Group, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding with Enduring Earth. These initiatives reinforce RedLAC’s commitment to working with international partners to maximize the impact of its conservation efforts.
With these decisions and agreements, RedLAC reaffirms its leadership in the region and continues to strengthen the partnerships necessary to address environmental challenges on the path to 2030.
