In Costa Rica, $321,000 in 12 projects will support marine protected areas.

Call for projects of the Forever Costa Rica Association will support 15 national parks, wildlife refugesand other protected areas.

A total of 12 projects for $321,000 will support the management of 15 marine areas in Costa Rica through the Protected Areas Program of Asociación Costa Rica por Siempre (ACRXS).

This is the result of the XI Call for Proposals of marine conservation projectsfollowing the evaluation and awarding of projects by the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) and ACRXS.

The new projects will contribute to ecological monitoring, adaptation to the effects of climate change, sustainable use of marine and coastal resources, and maritime control and surveillance actions.

The organizations that will be in charge of the implementation during 2023 are: Tropical Science Center, Ojochal Tortuga Reserve Foundation, Fundecodes, National University y LAST Association, as well as independent consultants and consultants.

Protected areas benefit

The new projects will be executed in National Parks such as the Cocos IslandThe new projects will be implemented in National Parks such as the Ballena, Corcovado, Tortuguero and Santa Rosa Marine Parks; the Caño Island Biological Reserve; and the Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve and Marine Management Area.

Other projects will be carried out in the Gandoca-Manzanillo, Barra del Colorado and Playa Hermosa-Punta Mala National Wildlife Refuges, among others.

Marine conservation

As part of the Protected Areas ProgramAs part of the Forever Costa Rica Forever program, Forever Costa Rica carries out marine-coastal conservation efforts through administration and technical support with its Forever Costa Rica Trust Fund.

The program's primary objective is to address threats to Costa Rica' s biodiversity and marine-coastal and oceanic ecosystems.

The 11th Call for Marine Conservation Projects was held during August 2022.
