Chile Nature Fund: March 2023 keys

The fulfillment of Fondo Naturaleza Chile's mission is structured around the values of collaboration, transparency, efficiency and innovation. These values permeate the work of the Fund and from there arise various actions. "With each of them we seek to advance the mission of activating new sources of funding to support the fulfillment of national and international conservation and climate action goals," explains Eugenio Rengifo, executive director of Fondo Naturaleza Chile.

The following are some of the milestones that were on the agenda during the month of March 2023:

  1. The Conservation Director of Fondo Naturaleza Chile, Tomás Saratscheff, visited projects of the "Healthy Watershed, Safe Water" program, invited by Antonio Lara, member of the board of directors of Fondo Naturaleza Chile and President of the Board of Directors of Fundación Forecos. The initiative implemented by Forecos with the support of the rural drinking water committees (CAPR) of Mashue, Liquiñe, and the Corporación de Comités de Agua Potable Rural de la Región de Los Ríos, aims to promote safe drinking water in rural areas through training and knowledge exchange between these committees and integrated watershed management as an adaptation to climate change.

2. In order to coordinate actions for biodiversity conservation and the fulfillment of Chile's challenges and commitments in the 2030 Agenda, Eugenio Rengifo, Executive Director, and Tomás Saratscheff, Conservation Director of Fondo Naturaleza Chile, met in person and online with Julio Cordano, Director of Environment and Ocean Affairs, Macarena Quezada and Tamara Villanueva, from the Environment, Climate Change and Oceans Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3. In the context of the Marine Protected Areas Program and its strategies, Fondo Naturaleza Chile agreed with Audubon a framework of understanding that promotes collaboration and the sum of wills for the effective conservation of birds. Audubon is an organization that works to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other living beings and their habitats, for the benefit of humanity and biodiversity.

4. Bárbara Saavedra, President of Fondo Naturaleza Chile, and Eugenio Rengifo, Executive Director, are members of the Future Roundtable on Sustainability of Life on the Planet convened by the CTCI Council (National Council of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation for Development), since November last year, which aims to advise the Presidency of the Republic with strategic guidelines to advance scenarios and public policies to face the development challenges of our country from the world of knowledge.

5. From the communications area, we know that the March Environmental Calendar is full of celebrations. This month recognizes grassroots recyclers, energy efficiency, forests and the climate. From our social networks we join these instances and commemorate World Nature Day (March 3) and World Water Day (March 22).

In this context, we share the following photograph by Francisco Otero (@fotografilio on Instagram), a member of the network of photographers who voluntarily contribute their images to Fondo Naturaleza Chile.
